How to make a Truss Rod Adjustment

Adjusting the truss rod on SCGC guitars is an easy 1 minute procedure if you have the right tool and know how. Let's take a look inside the sound hole with a mirror. There is a hole in the neck block leading to the truss nut. This nut is very easy to grab with a 3/8" socket yet difficult to strip out or slip.

Below: The real trick was finding the right length extension and socket size. My 6" extension with a standard length 3/8" socket was too long but a 3" long extension in combination with  a deep well 3/8" socket was the perfect length. These were all part of my standard quarter inch drive socket set from Craftsman.

Below: You insert the tool between the two middle strings and come up to the truss nut at an angle and it slips right on with a firm and positive feeling. Turn it clockwise to make the truss tighten and move the head back or counter clockwise to loosen and allow strings to pull head away from you. Make quarter turns or less and then check. This all takes about 30 seconds and is one of the easiest truss rod adjustments I have to make in my collection of guitars.
